Welcome to Ecounselling! You’ve reached the right place for online email counselling, wherever you are in the world.

Ecounselling is an opportunity for clients and counsellors to use modern computer technology, primarily email, to communicate. It is quite different from traditional face-to-face counselling where they sit in a room together for an hour every week and discuss the client’s issues. It has many benefits and advantages over traditional counselling and a few disadvantages.

Ecounselling benefits

Time flexibility

- no need to fit an appointment into your busy schedule. Ecounselling can take place at any time of the day or night.

No transport hassles

- no petrol costs, travel time, fossil fuel consumption, carbon footprint, parking problems, traffic jams…

Geographical freedom

- you can continue to receive counselling when you’re away from home, wherever you travel for study, business or pleasure, whenever you want it.

Health challenges

- you won’t have to cancel your appointment if you have the flu or other infectious illness. You don’t need to be physically mobile, and those differently abled, including hearing impaired, autistic, and housebound people, can use ecounselling services too.

Performance

- some people feel a need to perform for a counsellor, maybe either to say the right things to please the counsellor, to keep shameful facts hidden, or to appear likable. These pressures are removed with ecounselling and clients can feel free to be who they really are.

Expression

- some people express themselves more confidently in writing as it allows time for editing, rewriting, and contemplation before sending.

Accessibility

- It’s not necessary to leave home which is very useful for many people including new mothers, people who live in remote places, and those who don’t have access to suitable counselling in their own community.

Anonymity

- sometimes people can feel embarrassment about needing to access counselling services, for example if they have a high profile in their community, and/or feel some shame or guilt about something. Ecounselling offers a comfortably anonymous alternative to traditional counselling and you can be sure you won’t bump into anyone you know!

Personal space

- Some people find it easier to think and process their feelings when they are alone, and the presence of another in the room can be inhibiting.

Childcare

- For parents at home  struggling with the daily reality of life with small children, face-to-face counselling involves not only the cost and hassle of the counselling appointment itself but also childcare and transport. Ecounselling removes these obstacles and can take place in your own home, when the children are asleep or otherwise occupied.

Creativity

- the act of writing one’s thoughts down can often be therapeutic in itself.

Archives

- an ongoing email relationship with your counsellor provides you with a lasting record of how far you’ve come on your personal journey.
